Welcome to the Second Annual Colorado Health and Physical Education Summit 2025
This is a free professional development event. The Summit supported and developed by the Colorado Health and Physical Education Council, the council consists of health and physical education district coordinators and other partners from across the state of Colorado. This summit promises inspiration, networking opportunities, and a shared commitment to fostering healthier futures.
Session Description: Students will learn various parts of the Thriller dance by Michael Jackson. They will then teach their part to the class, creating a culminating dance that is sure to thrill!
Session Objectives:
Teachers will be able to use the jigsaw method to assist students in learning basic choreography.
Students will be able to work collaboratively in small groups and as a whole class to piece together basic choreography.

Session Description: Teaching dance should be different from the traditional dancing we did as children in school. I will take you through a progression of dances to help you build your dance toolbox. LET'S GOOOOOOOOO.......This will be a non-stop, movement-filled session.
Session Objectives:
1. Break down dancing into simple movement patterns with teaching techniques to use in your classroom.
2. Connect dance movement with the Colorado State PE standards evidence outcomes.
3. Build a progression of dances from that can be used Kindergarten through 8th grade.

In this session, participants will learn effective ways to manage gym entry and exit procedure, along with how and when to engage students in a class reset.
This will be a blend of instruction and movement. We will describe the concept and then actually walk through it in activities through modeling.

Double the J's, double the learning. Jen Vidal and Jodie Abrams will split this session with guiding you to a certification in FA/CPR/AED and then learning more about promoting healthy lifestyles with AHA
Session Description: Explore how the Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge resources can engage students, promote heart healthy lifestyles, and help you reach your Colorado Academic Standards. We will experience interactive games, share ideas, have giveaways, and learn about new program features. Get ready to get moving and have some fun! Session Objectives: Participants will be able to learn and demonstrate how to incorporate the American Heart Association’s resources to teach physical and personal wellness, social emotional wellness, movement competence and understanding, and prevention and risk management through physical education.
